Hello, I see that there is a lot of expertise here about the D130F, I hope I can get some advice.

I have a 64 blackface Fender Vibroverb, it is stock, has had caps etc but otherwise has not been modified, with the original CTS 15" ceramic speaker.

I am not satisfied with the sound, I think the speaker is stuffed, and am thinking of changing the speaker.

What would you suggest, either trying to find a D130 F ? the Jensen C15N, or perhaps a modern one, what about the Blue Marvel Peavey ?

Anyway many thanks for any help.

Peter

Hi Peter, all the ones I ever heard had the JBL D-130F in them so that's the only sound I know, but it sounds great, esp. the reverb and the low end of the guitar, great amp, good luck,Mel.

Same here, I've only seen a few in person and all had a D130F. I heard a completely restored one in '05 at a ToneFest event and it was one of the best sounding guitar amps I've ever heard.
I'd go for the JBL.

The amp sounds the best witht eh D-130F.  The only problem is that the mags in those old D series need to have a boost ( remagnitized 0 by the factory....it's about $30 -$40...but well worth it.  Personally I prefer the sound of the K series speakers.

Is there a reason why the K series don't need remagging or am I missing something? Both are alnico magnets.

The K series speaker, like the older D series, will eventually need to have a magnet boost due to the alnico magnet. Most K's are still good as the design is about 10 years newer than the old D series. However, the older K's are starting to fade.  I have one K-130 with a serial number in the 10,000's and another later model in the 40'000's and the one with the 10K mag is not quite as strong as the other.  BUT, even a JBL with a weak mag still sound better and puts out more than most other speakers.
